Bologna Sandwiches
When I was in 3rd grade I was bean pole skinny. Looking at the pictures of this bucktooth kid, you’d never think it was me. I am of French/English decent, and turn very dark when I play in the sun. It’s a rich olive complexion. Right now, I’m fairly pasty from years behind a computer in an office.
The skinniness ended around 5th grade. My older brothers would return from school and make bologna sandwiches. This started a daily ritual for me. Returning from school and gorging on bologna sandwiches, with lots of dill pickle slices and miracle whip salad dressing. About the same time, my mother became concerned with the influence of a neighborhood kid, with cause. She began restricting our playing to just the street we were on. No more riding our bikes all over the neighborhood. Since our street was a hill, you really couldn’t ride that well since you were either flying down it or cranking your way up it. So bike riding pretty much stopped.
With no real physical outlet, the daily caloric intake took its tool. I ballooned. My family has the disposition to gain weight. All of us became fat kids.
I struggled with my weight all my life. I yo-yoed for a while, but soon no diet or exercise seemed to help. Or perhaps, I just didn’t have the dedication. About 3 years ago, I decided to take the medical route. Since then I’ve dropped 138 lbs and have stabilized. I have had no weight loss or gain in the past 8 months. I would love to drop another 25lbs, but I’ve been told I am exactly where I should be. Thinner would be better, but I guessing that won’t happen unless I add an extensive exercise program to my daily routine.
With the weight loss, I decided to dive back into the dating field. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a serious relationship. I’ve done casual dating, but I didn’t feel myself worthy of a life long relationship. I am to that point now. I’m ready to settle down.
SkyPrincess and I met online. Yes, I know. But you would be amazed at how many people are now meeting online. It is a very comfortable way to meet someone. It forces you to communicate with each other, and if you don’t click… it’s very easy to disconnect. We’ve been chatting and talking on the phone for almost 2 months now. She is a flight attendant for a major airline, currently on assignment as their union representative for hotel services. She basically handles flight crew complaints, and makes sure the hotels they stay out meet a certain set of standards. This requires extensive travel. Which is fine, since I am now a 100% travel consultant.
SkyPrincess told me last night of an injury she received about 2 years ago. During a flight to Europe, she was thrown back into a metal bar in the galley. The bar jammed her back and she was hurt. At first, it was just the jolt and the pain of the injury. She worked the flight and went to the room. The next day, she found she was immobilized. She was carried onto the plane and had an ambulance meet her when she arrived back in the states. The injury had caused her spin to swell. She was immediately placed on bedrest for almost 6 months and pumped full of antibiotics and pain medication. She made a full recovery, thankfully.
There was one side effect of her treatment. She went from one of those people you hate, you know… that can consume massive amounts of food and never gain a pound. Now the medication has caused her metabolism to pretty much shut down. She’s not happy with what has happened. And I want to be as supportive of her as I can. I know how difficult the battle weight can be, and I also know my diet isn't the healthiest there is. I'm just concerned she'll sacrifice her diet when we go out. She’s made an appointment to her doctor to see what has happened. Why has her metabolism pretty much shut down. Can she regain the figure she had before?
She’s still everything I ever wanted in a mate, but I'm just concerned I won't be able to provide her with the support she needs. That I will fail her somehow. She's by far the best thing that has ever happened to my life. I don't want to lose her.
Time for lunch. Will post tomorrow.
